Puerto Escondido Tourist Information

Getting to Puerto Escondido by Air
Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM) - Puerto Escondido Airport is located 5 minutes off the Coastal Highway 200 just west of the central part of town. Another option is to fly into Hualtulco Airport (HUX) which is about 1.5 hours east of Puerto Escondido by taxi or rental car. Hualtulco is a much more developed tourist town and recieves more daily flights from Mexico city. Taking a bus from the Hautulco Airport is the another alternative, the cost is around $3 US per person and takes around 2 hours. From Mexico City - From Mexico Ctiy there is only one airline that services Puerto Escondido, the name of the airline is "Click" which is run by Mexicana. Reservations can be made easily online at www.click.com.mx

From Oaxaca City - There are two airlines from which to choose if you are coming in from Oaxaca City - Aerovega and Aerotucan. This is a small 10 to 20 seater plane that has daily flight for just under $150 one way. The flight only takes 30 minutes and it sure beats sitting in a car or bus for 10 hours. Reservations with Aerotucan can be made on the web at www.aerotucan.com.mx.
Getting to Puerto Escondido by Land
From Acapulco (SE on HWY 200; 6 hours):
From Acapulco get on highway 200, which is a two lane highway that travels along the coast. Coming into Puerto Escondido you will pass the airport on your left. Continue on Hwy 200 until you get into town.

From Oaxaca (HWY 131; 8 hours):
Highway 131 is a long widey mountanous road, it is a two lane road that has several sheer cliff drop offs. Do not attempt this route at night. You can catch a shuttle bus or taxi if you do not want to drive this road yourself. If you get car sick I recommend that you take a flight because this route has turns the entire way and the locals like to drive fast. Stay on Highway 131 until you reach highway 200. Coming into Puerto Escondido you will pass the airport on your left. Continue on Hwy 200 until you get into town.

From Huatulco (NW on HWY 200; 2 hours):
From Huatulco get on highway 200, which is a two lane highway that travels along the coast. Coming into town you will see a blue sign for "Playa Zicatela" on your left this is the beginning of Puerto Escondido and the main town starts here.

Getting to Puerto Escondido by Bus
Bus transportation offers a inexpensive way to travel in Mexico. They generally run day and night. If you are able to sleep in fairly cramped surroundings, this is the way to go. Most cities in Mexico have a Primero Clase (First Class) bus station. They are comfortable and safe. Find first class Mexico bus information at Premara Plus or ADO GL.

From Mexico City - the buses leave from the southern Terminal. Inquire in the entrance hall at the desk that says "Costa Chica". You can also travel with ADO from their terminal at the Tapo (Metro San Lazaro, Line 1, two stations away from the airport).
